This Certificate II equips aspiring manufacturing and engineering professionals with essential trade skills including welding, manual handling, technical drawing interpretation, and mechanical measurements. Ideal for those seeking entry-level positions in manufacturing or engineering environments.
Applicants must be employed to enrol as an apprentice or trainee with TAFE Queensland. A Skills Check is required following application submission to assess English (recommended level 3), Maths (recommended level 3), and Digital Technology (recommended level 2) proficiency. Trainees must be indentured with their employer, and employers must provide necessary human and physical resources. Students must meet occupational health and safety requirements and provide specified workwear and personal protective equipment.
Core units cover manual handling, engineering measurements using mechanical devices, work health and safety in manufacturing and engineering, information organisation and communication, on-the-job training assistance, hand tool use, and environmentally sustainable work practices. Elective units include various welding processes (oxy fuel gas, manual metal arc, gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc), mechanical cutting, brazing and silver soldering, manual heating and thermal cutting, heat treatment processes, computer-controlled machine operation and setup, workshop machine operations, technical drawing interpretation, computations, work planning, teamwork, computing technology interaction, power tool use, and engineering component assembly/disassembly.

Graduates can pursue careers as Metal Engineering Process Workers, Engineering Production Process Workers, or advance to higher-level engineering qualifications.
