This course is designed for adults learning English as an additional language. There are no formal prerequisites. Students should be motivated to improve their English language skills for daily communication and community engagement. The course is available through government funding programs (AMEP and SEE) for eligible students, making it accessible to those who qualify.
The course covers five core areas of English language development: Speaking and Listening - participating in conversations and transactions, understanding and providing information, opinions, instructions and directions; Reading and Writing - reading and writing straightforward informational and narrative texts; Numeracy - working with measurements, numbers and money in familiar and routine situations; Digital Skills - developing competency with digital tools and communication; Language Analysis - understanding key features and structures of the English language. Students complete one core unit (Develop and document a learning plan and portfolio) and nine elective units from options including casual conversations, straightforward information exchange, investigations of health and wellbeing, and Australian environmental issues.
