Become a Specialist Makeup Artist with comprehensive training in makeup techniques, airbrushing, and creative applications. This course prepares you for careers in beauty, fashion, media, and entertainment, teaching you to work collaboratively with industry professionals.
Applicants must complete a Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) online test to ensure required literacy and numeracy levels are met, and undertake a Pre-training Review by interview. Students must be able to work in a physical environment, interact and communicate effectively with clients, and respect confidentiality. Prospective VET Delivered to School Students (VDSS) must apply through their school's VET Coordinator or Careers Advisor.
The course comprises 15 units total: 8 core and 7 elective. Core units include Design and apply make-up, Design and apply make-up for photography, Design and apply creative make-up, Research and apply beauty industry information, Provide salon services to clients, Comply with organisational requirements, Apply safe hygiene and health practices, and Maintain ethical standards on social media. Elective units include Apply cosmetic tanning products, Provide lash and brow services, Apply eyelash extensions, Design and apply remedial camouflage make-up, Apply airbrushed make-up, Conduct salon financial transactions, and Greet and prepare clients for salon services.

Graduates work as Specialist Makeup Artists in makeup studios, retail cosmetic counters, fashion and media sets, and photography studios. Work is typically conducted as part of a team or on a freelance basis. Further study options include Certificate III in Beauty Services, Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy, or Diploma of Beauty Therapy.
