Become a skilled Early Childhood Educator with this nationally recognised Certificate III qualification. Learn to provide quality care and education for children from birth to five years through a blend of classroom learning and 160 hours of practical work placement in regulated childcare settings.
You must be at least 18 years old at course commencement. A Working with Vulnerable People card (Volunteer Status) and National Police Check from Service Tasmania are required before starting. A pre-enrolment face-to-face assessment on campus evaluates your Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital skills, followed by a one-on-one discussion with a teacher about course structure and expectations. While not required, access to a computer with reliable internet connection is recommended. Standard items like pens, notebooks, and USB drives should be prepared for classes.
Core units cover supporting inclusion and diversity, children's health and safety, nurturing babies and toddlers, developing positive relationships with children, using approved learning frameworks, supporting holistic development, providing play and learning experiences, connecting children with nature, observing children to inform practice, understanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, meeting legal and ethical obligations, and working effectively in early childhood settings. Additional core units include identifying at-risk children, providing First Aid in education and care settings, and workplace health and safety participation. Elective units may include workplace communication and reflecting on professional practice. The course integrates practical placement experience in long day care, family day care, pre-school, or before-school hours care services.
