Applicants must have completed a senior secondary school qualification equivalent to the Higher School Certificate (HSC) or similar. International applicants require IELTS English proficiency with an overall minimum of 7.5 and section minimums of 7.0 for reading and writing, and 8.0 for listening and speaking. Domestic students require a selection rank of 65.00. No specific prior teaching experience is required, though passion for working with children and commitment to education is essential.
The curriculum covers foundational education theory including child psychology, learning processes, and development from birth through age 12. Students study curriculum planning and educational programming for early childhood (0–5 years) and primary education (K–6), with specific focus on supporting early language, literacy, and numeracy development. The program includes Aboriginal education and culturally responsive teaching practices, ensuring graduates understand diverse learning needs and inclusive education strategies. Key areas include positive behaviour guidance, classroom management, children's wellbeing, the role of families and communities, and contemporary educational policies. Students also develop expertise in creative arts, science and technology, society and environment, and physical development, health and physical education (PDHPE). Professional experience placements totaling approximately 90 days provide supervised practical teaching in relevant school settings.
